چکیده

Background Liposarcomas (LPS) are rare tumors accounting approximately for 19% of adult soft-tissue tumors [1]. The most recent classification of the WHO divides liposarcomas into 3 main clinicopatological and genetic subtypes: myxoid/round cells liposarcoma, well differentiated / dedifferentiated liposarcoma and pleomorphic liposarcoma [2]. The importance of a total macroscopical resection to perform an oncologically correct operation is well known, so that it is often necessary to remove one or more adjoining organs with the purpose of reducing the risk of local secondary recurrences [3].

High level of CDK4 amplification is a poor prognostic factor in well-differentiated and dedifferentiated liposarcoma.

The amplification of MDM2 and CDK4 is the main molecular feature of well-differentiated liposarcomas (WDLS) and dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DDLS). Although the diagnostic usefulness of this molecular characteristic in liposarcomas has been investigated, its prognostic utility of quantitative gene level has not been explored. The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic significance of ...

Primary (de novo) dedifferentiated liposarcoma in the extremities: a multi-institution Tohoku Musculoskeletal Tumor Society study of 18 cases in northern Japan.

OBJECTIVE Dedifferentiated liposarcomas usually occur in the retroperitoneal space and relatively rarely in the extremities. METHODS We identified 18 patients with primary dedifferentiated liposarcoma in the extremities from the files of Tohoku Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and analyzed demographics, histologic findings, treatments and prognostic factors. The average follow-up period was 58 m...

C-kit expression in dedifferentiated and well-differentiated liposarcomas; immunohistochemistry and genetic analysis.

BACKGROUND c-kit expression by immunohistochemistry has been utilized to identify cancer patients who can be treated with imatinib-mesylate. In gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), an activating mutation in c-kit predicts treatment response; its presence in other soft tissue tumors is unexplored. MATERIALS AND METHODS We evaluated seven cases of dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DDLS) and co...

PML expression in soft tissue sarcoma: prognostic and predictive value in alkylating agents/antracycline-based first line therapy.

Soft tissue sarcomas are aggressive tumors representing <1% of all adult neoplasms. Aim of our study was to evaluate promyelocytic leukemia gene expression value as prognostic factor and as a factor predicting response to alkylating agents/antracycline-based first line therapy. One hundred eleven patients affected by locally advanced and metastatic soft tissue sarcoma were selected. PML express...

Snakebite Prognostic Factors: Leading Factors of Weak Therapeutic Response Following Snakebite Envenomation

Background: The goal of antivenom administration for snake-bitten patients is to achieve therapeutic response (initial control), which means reversal of the venom-induced effects through neutralizing the venom. The aim of this study was to identify snakebite prognostic factors of weak therapeutic response prior to antivenom administration. Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients wit...
